BarcodeOCR is ideally suited for you if you need an application that can recognize all common barcode formats and can automatically extract them from documents and images. You see, BarcodeOCR monitors the input folder you specify for new files; when new files are added to that folder, BarcodeOCR processes them, extracts any existing barcodes, and saves them to the location you specify. It runs silently in the background, making your life easier.

You can install the application in English, German, or French on your machine. The installation process is as simple as they come. You have to download a small archive, extract its contents, run the BarcodeOCR_Setup executable, and click through the onscreen instructions presented by a setup wizard. You will be done in little time and that is always nice.

The interface features a Pause Service and a Service Stop and Restart button to the left. The main pane to the right presents a list of configurations. After you set up one or more configurations, they will be executed simultaneously. When setting up a configuration, you will have to go through the following: select the name of the configuration, choose the input and output folders, select the barcodes you want the application to look for, set up a filter, choose the scan direction, specify some separation options, set up naming rules, adjust some advanced options.

While the BarcodeOCR service is running, it will use the configurations you created to monitor an input folder, process all the files within, then extract, save and rename barcodes based on your specifications.

Please note that BarcodeOCR is not free, it is only free to try. You have 30 days at your disposal to evaluate the functionality of the application.

BarcodeOCR works as advertised – the service runs in the background, extracting barcodes based on your specifications.

Pros

Support for multiple languages and for numerous barcode formats is provided. You will have no problems setting up configurations for the BarcodeOCR service. The application automatically processes the files added to an input folder; it saves the barcodes to an output folder based on your specifications.

Cons

Free to use for a 30-day trial; nag screen.
